Dr Alireza Dastan joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at University of Isfahan, Iran as an Assistant Professor in September 2020. Alireza Received his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman, Iran in 2006, and then, he moved to Shiraz to do his Master in Energy Conversion at Shiraz University, where he performed his research mostly on CFD, particle tracking and code development.
After some years of experiences in industrial research and university teaching, Alireza could secure a fully-funded PhD position, supported by Unilever, at Sheffield Hallam University, UK. He moved to the UK in 2014 to do his PhD in Molecular Dynamics simulations of self-assembly of chiral nano-structures. He performed the PhD thesis viva with NO modification which is a rare outcome for PhD students in the UK. Considering this outstanding result and other achievements during his PhD, Alireza won the Laskowski Prize for Excellence in Research in Sheffield Hallam University in 2018. After his PhD graduation, Alireza came back home to do a 2-year post-doc at Shiraz University, Iran until when he proudly became a faculty member at the University of Isfahan.
Dr Dastan is fascinated by numerical simulations and the application of these approaches in solving engineering problems. Hence, Alireza's research interests include, but are not limited to:
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), mostly for:
+ Particle modelling in fluid flow
+ Bio-fluid modelling
+ Simulation of ventilation in tunnels
- Air pollution modelling
- Molecular Dynamics
